about

I've really grown to love the band, Old Crow Medicine Show. They have a knack for picking wonderful traditional songs and making them their own. But they are great songwriters too! Songs tend to be about poor white trash on drugs doing dumb things. They write about war, farming, and other obscure topics. "Big TIme in the Jungle" caught my attention. This one was written by Critter Fuqua and rehashes the story of a reasonably normal young Alabama boy who starts out fishin' and gettin' drunk but eventually finds himself in Vietnam fighting for who knows what. Made me feel like I would have ended up there myself. Had a lot of fun working out our arrangement with Ron and Rob then was super happy when Pete Smith came in for the session and adapted the fiddle part to his guitar.
